Dirk Bogarde

Derek Jules Gaspard Ulric Niven van den Bogaerde, better known under his stage name of Dirk Bogarde, was born in London in 1921. In 1943, he was commissioned in the Queen's Royal Regiment and served in both Europe and the Far East. Dirk Bogarde was best known as an actor, but also wrote a number of novels and autobiographical works. He was knighted for services to acting in 1992, and died in 1999.
