The Loved One

Andrew Todd

Today, there are not tears enough
Yesterday, she was here
Not hale, but whole
And here, not gone.
A living presence
Smiling bravely
Lips pale
The light brown hair
Tinted
But not unreal
Apt, natural.
The pain at bay
The frail figure
Fighting the
Inevitable end.
No strength or muscle left
To counterpunch.
Today there are not tears enough.

Written in memory of his wife Marjory.
