God of the Flies

John Rimington

Mundy, McCall, and Browne, and Saul,
Mulholland, Geer, and Snoddie,
Porton, Horton, and Heptonstall
Are dying in the wadi.
Charlie and Fred are already dead,
And Sergeant Crisp is sleeping
His final sleep beside the jeep ...
His wife will soon be weeping.
But tell our wives that Life survives,
    For God is mighty clever.
    While He supplies eternal flies
    The desert lives for ever.
Yes, tell our wives that Life survives.
    A clever fellow, God is,
    For He supplies eternal flies
    To populate the wadis.
